京都には築百年の町家が沢山ありますが、
西洋建築で100年以上の歴史がある建物も町のあちこちで見掛けます。
今年の7月に京都府庁旧本館の1階に、モダン建築を満喫できるカフェがオープンしました。
約120年前のルネサンス様式の建築で、
平成16年(2004)12月10日に国の重要文化財に指定され官公庁建物としては日本最古だそうです。
門番さんのいる正門のゲートをちょっとドキドキしながら通り抜けて旧本館に入りました。
アーチ型の入り口、左右対称のデザインの建物、庭に置かれたベンチ、
歴史を感じるなんだか懐かしい空気が漂っています。
入って正面にある石造りの階段は結婚式が似合いそうな素敵な雰囲気です。
手すりも凝ったデザイン。京都にいることを忘れそうです。
高い天井の廊下、アーチをくぐるように建物の東端までいくと、
そこに ”salon de 1904 by MAEDA COFFEE”があります。
赤いじゅうたんが敷き詰められ、作家さんの作品が壁に掛けられ、
カラフルでかわいいランプが飾られています。
入って右手の部屋の窓際の席を選びました。
窓からは陽の光が差し込み、明るい部屋には歴史を感じるテーブルや椅子。
クラシック音楽が流れ、贅沢で優雅な雰囲気です。
モーニングメニューはどれも美味しそう！
クラシックの優しく明るい音楽を聴きながらクロックムッシュとコーヒーをいただきました。
一口ずつ味わいながら今日の計画を考えながら過ごす静かなモーニングタイムは、本当に贅沢でした。
11月2日から12日まで開催される【京都モダン建築祭】は、
京都で大切に守り継がれてきたモダン建築が日時限定で特別に公開される建築一斉公開イベントです。
京都府庁旧本館も勿論含まれています。
この期間に、普段は入れない建築を見学してみてはいかがでしょうか。
There are many 100-year-old machiya townhouses in Kyoto, but you can also find Western-style buildings with a history of more than 100 years here and there in the city.
This July, a café opened on the first floor of the former main building of the Kyoto Prefectural Office, where visitors can enjoy Kyoto’s modern architecture to the fullest. The 120-year-old Renaissance-style building was designated as a National Important Cultural Property on December 10, 2004, and is said to be the oldest government building in Japan.
I entered the old main building through the main gate with a gatekeeper little bit nervously.
The arched entrance, the symmetrical design of the building, the benches in the garden, I felt the nostalgic atmosphere.
The stone staircase in front of the entrance has a wonderful atmosphere that would be suitable for a wedding. The handrails are also elaborately designed. You may forget that you are in Kyoto.
Walking through the high-ceilinged corridor and archway to the east end of the building, you will find “salon de 1904 by MAEDA COFFEE“. Red carpets are laid out, artists’ works adorn the walls, and cute, colorful lamps decorate the rooms.
I chose a table by the window in the room to the right of the entrance. Sunlight streamed in through the window, and the room was brightly lit with classical tables and chairs. The atmosphere is luxurious and elegant with classical music BGM.
The morning menu all looks delicious! I had croque monsieur and coffee while listenig to the bright and gentle classical music. It was truly a luxurious morning time spent savoring each bite and thinking about the day’s plans.
Kyoto Modern Architecture Festival, which will be held from November 2 to 12, is a special open-house event where modern architecture that has been carefully preserved in Kyoto will be open to the public for a limited time only. During this period, why not visit architectural structures that are not usually open to the public?
