京都には様々な神社がありますが、実はお菓子の神社もあるのをご存知ですか？
左京区吉田神社の末社である菓祖神社にはお菓子の神様が祀られています。
「日本書紀」には「橘は不老不死の妙薬である」と記載がありますが、
日本に橘の木を持ち帰った田道間守命（たぢまもりのみこと）と日本で初めておまんじゅうを作った
林浄因命（りんじょういんのみこと）が御祭神です。
京都が誇る和菓子の老舗や地域の小さなお菓子屋さんなどなど沢山のお菓子のお店が
玉垣を奉納されている様子で、敷地内はとても綺麗に整備され大切に守られている様子が感じ取れます。
訪れた11月末は、最高にきれいな状態でつやつやした黄色の橘の実が沢山熟していました。
京都に住み美味しいお菓子がいつでも食べられることに感謝しながらお詣りをしたのでした。
There are many different shrines in Kyoto, but did you know that there is a shrine for sweets?
The God of sweets is enshrined at the Kaso Shrine, as a branch shrine of the Yoshida Shrine in Sakyo Ward.
The shrine is dedicated to the gods of sweets: Tajimamori-no-mikoto, who brought back
the tachibana tree to Japan, and Rinjo-in-no-mikoto, who made Japan’s first manjyu or rice cake
with sweet beans.
There are many confectionary stores, including Kyoto’s long-established Japanese confectionary shops
and small local confectionary shops, that have dedicated tamagaki to the shrine,
and the grounds are very well maintained and carefully protected.
When I visited at the end of November, it was in the most beautiful condition,
with many shiny yellow tachibana citrus ripening.
I paid my respects, grateful that I live in Kyoto and can eat delicious sweets at any time.
