下鴨神社の周辺には和菓子と洋菓子の素敵なお店が集まっています。
どこも神社参拝の後に是非お薦めしたいお店です。今日は和菓子のお店で
下鴨神社からは徒歩10分程北に上がった宝泉をご紹介します。
下鴨神社内でも茶店も出しておられ、下鴨神社の葵の葉のデザインした「賀茂葵」という
丹波大納言小豆のお菓子を販売されています。
閑静な住宅街の中にあり、立派な門構えの上品な大邸宅といった外観です。
門をくぐるととても綺麗に手入れがされた庭が見えます。
紅葉も終わった時期なのですが、とても綺麗で手入れが行き届いているのに驚きました。
紅いもみじだけが美しく掃き集められているのが印象的です。
玄関では靴を脱いで上がります。スキッと掃除の行き届いた広々とした座敷を通り、
右手に日本庭園を眺めながら奥へ奥へと案内されました。
急須でお茶が出されて温かいお茶をいただきながらメニューに目を通します。
一通り見てはみるものの、楽しみにしていた看板メニューのわらび餅を迷わず注文しました。
お茶請けに、しぼり豆丹波黒大寿と賀茂葵が出され、丁寧に味わいます。
わらび餅に関する注意書きがあるので、それを読みながらワクワクしながら待ちます。
そしてとうとうやってきました！
出来立てぷるぷるで、少しねっとりした弾力があるわらび餅が涼しげなガラスの器に載っています。
口に入れる前、見た瞬間から美味しいのです（笑）
この出来立てのわらび餅を食べられる幸せ。味覚を120%研ぎ澄ませながら楽しみます。
この瞬間が出来るだけ長く続くようにゆっくり食べたいのですが、美味しすぎて「待て！」ができません。
少々残念な気持ちになりながら、あっという間に食べ終わりました。
これほどまでにわらび餅が幸せを運んでくれるものかと感動しました。
わらび餅の美味しさだけでなく、隅々まで綺麗に手入れがされた建物と庭園、
お茶、ホスピタリティ、待ち時間、とすべてはあの門をくぐった瞬間から、
上質なおやつ時間が始まっていたのだと思います。
宝泉での貴重な時間は、まるで神社やお寺を参拝したかのような清々しい達成感すら感じることができます。

There are a number of great Japanese and Western sweets stores in the Shimogamo Shrine area.
All of them are highly recommended after a visit to the shrine. Today, let me introduce a Japanese confectionery store.
Housendo is about a 10-minute walk north of Shimogamo Shrine.
Located in a quiet residential area, it has the appearance of an elegant mansion with a magnificent gate.
When you pass through the gate, you will see a beautifully landscaped garden. It was the end of the fall foliage season, but I was surprised that not a single leaf had fallen. It is impressive that only the red leaves are beautifully swept.
At the entrance, I took off my shoes. I was led to a spacious and neatly cleaned tatami room with a view of the Japanese garden on the right side.
I ordered the signature dish, “Warabi Mochi”. I wait excitedly while reading the notes about the Warabi Mochi.
And finally, it was served! The freshly made, plump, slightly sticky and elastic Warabi Mochi is served in a cool glass bowl. It is delicious from the moment I see it, even before I put it in your mouth. I tried to taste with the maximum palate. I wanted to eat them slowly so that this moment lasts as long as possible, but it is so delicious that I cannot “wait! ” I finished eating it in a flash, feeling a little disappointed. I was impressed by how much happiness the Warabi Mochi brought to me. Not only the deliciousness of them, but also the beautifully maintained Japanesse house and garden, the tea, the hospitality, and the waiting time, all of which made me think that from the moment I passed through that gate, a quality sweet time had begun.
You can even feel a sense of accomplishment during your precious time at Housendo, as if you had visited a shrine or temple. I hope you will enjoy delicious Japanese sweets in this uniquely Kyoto space.
