寺社仏閣を色で表すと地味なイメージがあります。
木造なので茶色、石庭の石のグレーや白、そして苔や木々の緑。
しかしこの数年、寺社仏閣巡りの時に気付いたことがあります。
とてもカラフルなイメージなのです。その理由は、花手水です。
コロナで手水の使用を控える所も多くなった為、
その代わりに参拝者に和んでもらう方法の一つとして花手水を設えているところが多い様です。
きれいなお花にとても心が癒され、より歓迎されているかのような気持ちになります。
祈る為だけの場所ではなく、花手水で癒されたり楽しい気持ちにもなれる寺社仏閣に
「今日はどんなお花かな？」とワクワクしながら参拝するのが最近の密かな楽しみです。

What colors come to mind when you hear the word “temple” or “shrine”?
Brown of wooden building. Gray and white of stone garden. Green of moss and trees. Not so colorful.
However, I have noticed something during my visits to temples and shrines over the past few years.
Temples and shrines are getting more and more colorful. The reason for this is a chozuya with colorful flowers.
A chozuya is a fountain with purifying water to wash your hands and rinse your mouth
before going into a shrine or a temple.
Past few years because of Covid-19, we can not use the chozuya.
Instead, we can enjoy a view of flowers floating on top of the water.
A shrine with a chozuya with colorful flower makes me feel more welcome.
“What kind of flowers will I see today?” I have been secretly looking forward to visiting temples and shrines with excitement.
