新緑が美しく、鳥がさえずりとても気持ちの良い四月の京都御苑。
犬の散歩をされるご近所さん、ジョギング中の外国人旅行者とすれ違いますが、
人もまばらで本当に平和なところ。
今の季節はレンゲやたんぽぽ、つつじ、まだまだ若い松ぼっくりなど町の中の植物園の様なオアシスです。
御所の中にある京都迎賓館にも立ち寄ってみました。
当日ふらっと訪れたのですが、桜の観光シーズンが終わったせいか、
予約なしでもすぐに始まるツアーに参加することができました。
1時間半のコースで、私が参加した時は11人のグループでした。
待合室で注意点など確認し、グループごとに移動をします。
イヤホンでガイドさんの説明を聞きながらゆったりと進んでいくので、
様々なエピソードを知ることができました。
最初は空港の手荷物検査場の様なに立ち寄り、セキュリティゲートを通ります。
迎賓館は国賓を招く場所ですので、建物から調度品まですべてが日本が誇る
伝統工芸の頂点を極めた品々です。
人間国宝の作品を一度に沢山拝見できるのはとても貴重な機会です。
G8京都外相会合が開催された”夕映えの間”では、日本画の絵を元に綴織りの織物が壁面を飾ってあり、
いかに大きな作品が大人数の職人さんの手により作られたかがわかります。
晩餐会会場の”藤の間”では、一番印象的な截金（きりかね）の舞台扉がありました。
金箔を竹で髪の細さに切る工程を待合いの時間にビデオで見たのですが、
その根気のいる作業と高い技術に驚きました。
その後実物を”藤の間”で見る事ができ、その美しさに感動しました。先に制作の背景を知ったことで、
より作品の価値を感じる事ができました。
“桐の間”の12メートルある漆の座卓もまた美しく、技術と手間のかかる作品で、
とにかくこの迎賓館にある品々は、日頃手に取る事の出来ない、
そして直接目にすることもない日本最高峰のものであることを感じました。
宝物の様な町京都。その中にある迎賓館とその中に集められた最高の伝統工芸品。
それはそれはとても贅沢で非日常な空間でした。
非日常な迎賓館から外に出ると、再び植物園の様な御所を散歩し、現実世界へとクールダウンしました。
もし行かれた際には、迎賓館の後には、笹屋伊織＋や、
Coffee Base Nashinokiで休憩されてみてはいかがでしょうか？
The Kyoto Imperial Garden in April is very pleasant with beautiful fresh greenery and birds chirping.
I passed by neighbors walking their dogs and foreign tourists jogging, but the place is very peaceful and sparsely populated. In this season, it is an oasis like a botanical garden in the city, with dandelions, azaleas, and young pine cones.
I also stopped by the Kyoto State Guest House in the Gosho.
I visited there on a whim on the day of the tour, and perhaps because the cherry blossom tourist season was over, I was able to join a tour that started immediately without a reservation.
The tour lasted one and a half hours, and there were 11 people in my group when I joined. We went through the waiting room to check the precautions, etc., and then moved to our groups.
We were able to learn about various episodes as we proceeded at a leisurely pace while listening to the guide’s explanations through earphones. At first, we stopped at a kind of baggage check point at the airport and passed through the security gate.
Since the Kyoto State Guest House is a place for inviting state guests, everything from the building to the furnishings is the pinnacle of traditional craftsmanship, the pride of Japan. It is a rare opportunity to see many works by living national treasures at once.
In the “Yubae no Ma,” where the G8 Kyoto Foreign Ministers’ Meeting was held, the walls are decorated with woven fabrics based on Japanese paintings, showing how large works of art were created by a large group of craftsmen.
The most impressive feature of the “Wisteria Room,” where the formal banquet is usually held, was the stage door made of cut gold leaf. I watched a video of the process of cutting gold leaf into hair-thin strips with bamboo during the waiting time, and was amazed at the patience and high skill involved. Later, I was able to see the actual piece in the “wisteria room” and was impressed by its beauty. Knowing the background of the production first, I was able to appreciate the value of the work even more.
The 12-meter long lacquer table in the “paulownia room” was also beautiful and a work of skill and care. The Kyoto State Guest House and the best traditional crafts collected in the guest house in the city like a treasure, Kyoto. It was a very luxurious and extraordinary space.
Once outside the extraordinary state house, I took a walk around the botanical garden-like Gyoen again and cooled down to the real world. Why not take a break at Sasaya Iori+ or Coffee Base Nashinoki after visiting the State Guest House?
