早起きをして、一人暮らしをしている長男と出町柳で待ち合わせ。
スカッと秋晴れがまぶしい鴨川デルタ。
朝散歩はCOFFE HOUSE makiさんからスタート。
ボリューム満点のモーニングと美味しい珈琲、離れて暮らす長男の近況報告などを聞く幸せな朝食タイム。
トーストセットと共に出される割り箸、食べやすさバツグンです。
お腹を満たしたら、目的地を目指しながら桝形商店街を抜けることに。
昭和とモダンが絶妙に融合された商店街、商う人たちの活気と心が伝わってくる空間です。
映画館と書店とカフェが一体化した出町座は、商店街でもひときわ目をひく佇まい。

古本屋さんでピピッとくる本に目星をつけたり
コーヒーの試飲をしながら長男のうんちくを聞いたり(珈琲好きの息子)
次男の好きなみかんを山盛り買ってしまったり。
ぷらぷらとお散歩を楽しみながら、本日の目的地「相国寺承天閣美術館」に到着。
広大な相国寺の境内の端にある、美しい美術館。
エントランスまでのアプローチ、苔や石、手入れの行き届いた木々に見惚れててなかなか足が進みません。
ここは入り口で靴を脱いで入場する、めずらしいタイプの美術館。
靴下で絵画を鑑賞するという不思議な新鮮さ、夏にうっかり素足で来たら落ち着かないだろうな…
今回のお目当ては「若冲と応挙展」。
澤田瞳子さんの歴史小説「若冲」を夢中になって読んだので、今回の企画展を楽しみにしていました。
長男が絵を描く仕事をしているので、絵画展に彼を誘うことが多いです。
絵を描く人の視点というのは、絵を描かない私がまったく持ち合わせていないもの。
彼の感想を聞きながら鑑賞すると、若冲のバックグラウンドやストーリーは良い意味で無視され、技術やセンスがクローズアップされて「現実的な絵描き」として見えてきます。
とはいえ、澤田瞳子さんの小説に出てくる若冲と目の前の絵を重ね合わせ、あのとき狂ったように書いていた絵はこれか…なんて、現実と小説の世界を行ったりきたりするのも楽しいものです。
そして応挙。
ホワホワ丸々した動物たちに会えるのを楽しみにしていたのですが、今回の見どころ「七難七福図巻」はなかなかパンチの効いたものでした。
若冲と応挙展、来年１月末まで開催されてます。

帰り道、買い込んだ本と山盛りみかんをぶら下げながら甘味処みつばちさんへ。
ランチ代わりのクリームあんみつで、幸せな朝散歩のしめくくり。
良い天気、良い時間、おいしいもので満たされて、午後からお仕事がんばろっと。
On a bright autumn morning, I woke up early and met my eldest son, who lives alone, at Demachiyanagi.
We spent a happy breakfast time at COFFE HOUSE maki, enjoying a hearty breakfast, delicious coffee, and listening to my eldest son’s updates on his life away from home.
A toast set with salad and ham stuffed inside hollowed-out bread.
Served together are disposable chopsticks, not forks.
After filling our bellies, we walked along the Masugata shopping street toward our destination.
The shopping street is an exquisite blend of old-fashioned atmosphere and modern flair, a space that conveys the vitality and spirit of the merchants.
The Demachi-za, a movie theater, bookstore, and café, stands out even in the shopping arcade. (It is currently showing Barbie, so it pops even more).
I spotted a book that caught my eye at the used bookstore, listened to my eldest son’s stories while tasting coffee (he loves coffee), and bought a pile of my youngest son’s favorite oranges.
While enjoying a leisurely stroll, we arrived at today’s destination, the Shokokuji Jotenkaku Museum of Art.
It is a beautiful museum located at the edge of the vast Shokokuji temple grounds.
The approach to the entrance, moss, stones, and well-kept trees are so beautiful that it is difficult to keep going.
This is a uniquely beautiful art museum where visitors take off their shoes at the entrance.
It is a strange and fresh feeling to appreciate paintings in socks, and it would be uncomfortable to come here in summer with bare feet…
(In Japanese culture, there is a sense that it is impolite to go up to someone’s house barefoot.)
What I wanted to see this time was the “Jakuchu and Okyo Exhibition“.
Jakuchu Ito and Okyo Maruyama are both Japanese painters who were very active in the Edo period.
I was looking forward to this exhibition, since I devoured Hitoko Sawada’s historical novel “Jakuchu”.
My eldest son works as a painter, so I often invite him to art exhibitions.
A painter’s point of view is something that I, who does not paint, do not have at all.
When I appreciate a painting while listening to his impressions, Jakuchu’s background and story are ignored in a good way, and his technique and sense of style are brought into focus, and he comes across as a “realistic painter”.
However, it is also fun to compare Jakuchu’s paintings in front of your eyes with those in Hitoko Sawada’s novel, and wonder if this is the painting he was writing like a madman at that time… It is fun to go back and forth between the world of reality and the world of the novel.
And then there are Okyo’s paintings.
Although Okyo is famous for his pictures of cute animals with fluffy fur, the highlight of this exhibition, “Seven Pains and Seven Good Fortunes,” was quite a shocking work.
On the way home, we stopped by Mitsubachi sweet shop.
A cream anmitsu for lunch rounded out a happy morning walk.
Filled with good weather, good time, and good food, I am ready to go to work in the afternoon.
