前回のブログ、近江神宮から東へまっすぐの道を歩くこと15分。
立ち並ぶマンションを越えるとすぐに目に飛び込んできたのは
美しいお花に囲まれたおしゃれな洋館。
柳が埼湖畔公園にあるびわ湖大津館です
びわ湖大津館は1934年に外国人誘致の国策のもと、
県内初の国際観光ホテル（旧琵琶湖ホテル）として建設されました。
洋風の内観と「桃山様式」と呼ばれる特徴的な和風の外観が
琵琶湖の風景や古都大津の風土にうまくマッチしているのです
営業時代は「琵琶湖の迎賓館」として昭和天皇や皇族の方々、
ヘレンケラーや川端康成などの著名人も多く宿泊された、格式を持ったホテルだったのです。
1998年にホテル営業に幕を下ろし、琵琶湖ホテルは浜大津へ営業移転。
建物の取り壊しが予定されていましたが、惜しむ市民の声に大津市がこたえ、
建物の改修工事、周辺一帯を公園整備、「大津市指定有形文化財」に登録。
2002年、今の「びわ湖大津館」として新たに開館されました。
今の館内にはレストランやカフェ、ショップや貸会議室や市民ギャラリーなどがあります。
２Fには展望テラスがあり、琵琶湖を一望できます
隣接するイングリッシュガーデンと共に市民の集いの場となっているんだそう。
一面に広がるびわ湖を発見してしまったので、すかさず外へ。
秘密の花園のようなイングリッシュガーデンを抜けると湖岸歩道が♪
ぐるっとどこまでも続く歩道がとっても気持ちよくてお散歩意欲をそそります。
少し進むと、釣り人発見。
更に進むと釣り人も増えていきます。
ブラックバスはもちろん、この時期は小鮎が釣れるんだそう！
歩道からすぐに足をつけられるくらいの場所もあり、座ってパチャパチャしながら休憩も楽しく。

思わず深呼吸をいっぱいしました。
こんな贅沢な のんびり時間。

I discovered Lake Biwa spread out, so I quickly went outside.
The endless sidewalks that lead around the lake are very pleasant and stimulate the desire to go for a walk.
There were places where you could put your feet in the water and take a break while sitting and playing.
The sound of the waves and the shimmering surface of the lake were beautiful.
I took a lot of deep breaths.
Such a luxurious and relaxing time.
