誰もが一度は教科書で見た事のある口から六体の阿弥陀如来様が出ている「空也上人立像」
（くうやしょうにんりゅうぞう）」を拝観する事が出来る六波羅蜜寺。
ほとりから徒歩約6分程の場所にあります。先日、節分の2月3日に参拝してまいりました。
午前には星まつりが、午後からは豆まきが実施されました。
本堂では軽く50名は超える参拝者が正座をしながら待っていると
賑やかな太鼓の音が響き、3名の僧侶がお経をあげられます。
読経の後は参拝者が順番に御焼香をし、その間に山主（住職）がご挨拶をされました。
星まつりとは、天空には北斗七星を中心に沢山の星がありますが、
すべての星に願いを掛けるおまつりとのこと。
今年は辰年で地の龍と天の龍が動き出す年です。
早速元旦から地の龍が動き出していますが、登り龍という言葉があるように、
良い方向へと活発に物事が動き出す一年であってほしい、そんな願いを込められた星まつりでした。
六波羅蜜寺で人気があるのは、四柱推命を元にした「開運推命おみくじ」です。
生年月日と性別で自分の番号をファイルで調べて、おみくじを受け取ります。
1月1日スタートではなく、2月4日からの1年間の運勢を知ることができるのです。
2022年5月にオープンした令和館では、国宝、重要文化財の像を拝観することができます。
空也上人立像は前からだけでなく横からも見ることができるよう展示されています。
鎌倉時代は、荒れた京都や奈良を立て直す為に、お寺や仏像を再建するのに力を入れられた時代。
新しい宗派も生まれた時代でした。お寺には欠かせられない仏像を彫る仏師も
沢山京都で活躍されていました。
かつてこの六波羅蜜寺の中には仏師集団の拠点工房があったとのこと。
国宝や重要文化財に指定される像が集まっているのも納得です。
弁財天さまもいらっしゃるので、銭洗いをして金運アップを願う参拝者で巳の日は
境内が混みあいます。
十一面観音立像は秘仏ですので、厨子の扉は閉まっていますが12年に一度辰年に御開帳されます。
今年がその年にあたりますので、11月の御開帳の時期が楽しみです。
現在の敷地はそれほど大きくないのですが、見どころが色々とあり、
中身の詰まった濃厚なお寺だと思います。ほとりからもお散歩に行かれてみてはいかがでしょうか。
Rokuharamitsuji temple is where you can see the “Standing Kuya Shonin” a statue of six Amida- nyorai statues coming out of the mouth, which everyone has seen in a school textbook at least once. The temple is located about a six-minute walk from hotori.
I visited the temple on February 3, the Setsubun day. (The word Setsubun literally means the division of two seasons: Winter and Spring.)
The Hoshi Matsuri (star festival ceremony) was held in the morning and the Mamemaki (bean throwing) in the afternoon.
The ceremony started at 11:00 a.m. as more than 50 people sat in the main hall and waited. The sound of lively taiko drums echoed, and three monks recited sutra chanting. After the sutra chanting, visitors took turns to burn incense, during which the head priest greeted us.
The Hoshi Matsuril is a ceremony to make wishes on all the stars in the sky. This year is the Year of the Dragon, the year in which the dragons of the earth and the dragons of the sky begin to move. The dragon of the earth has been on the move since New Year’s Day (In Japan, a major earthquake occurred on New Year’s Day.) As the word “climbing dragon” suggests, the star festival was filled with wishes for a year in which things will move actively in the right direction.
One of the most popular items at this temple is the “Kaiun Suimei Omikuji” (=fortune slip) based on the Four Pillars of Destiny. First, you check your number using your date of birth and gender and receive your fortune slip; you will know your fortune for the year starting February 4 instead of January 1.
Opened in May 2022, the 2022 Reiwa-kan museum offers visitors the opportunity to view statues that are National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties. The standing statue of Kuya Shonin is displayed at the end of the show case so that you can see not only from the front but also from the side.
The Kamakura period (1185-1333) was a time when efforts were made to rebuild temples and Buddhist statues in order to restore Kyoto and Nara. It was also a time when new religious sects were born. Many sculptors who carved Buddhist statues, which were indispensable for temples, were also active in Kyoto.
There used to be a base workshop for a group of Buddhist sculptors in Rokuharamitsuji Temple. It is no wonder that statues designated as national treasures and important cultural properties are gathered here.
The temple is also home to the god of money “Benzaiten”, so the temple is crowded on the day of the snake with worshippers who wash their money and wish for good luck.
The eleven-faced Kannon is a hidden statue, so the door of statue is closed, but the door is opened once every 12 years in the year of the dragon, this year! Let’s look forward to the door opening in November.
Although the current site is not very large, there are many attractions, and it is a rich temple with a lot of treasures. Why not go for a walk to Rokuharamitsuji temple?
